''The Last Edition'' (1925) is a silent film melodrama film directed by Emory Johson and set in San Francisco.〔(The AFI Catalog of Feature Films:''The Last Edition'' )〕 The leading role is played by Ralph Lewis who plays a pressman at the ''San Francisco Chronicle''. The film was shot around the Chronicle Building at Geary, Kearny, and Market in downtown San Francisco. Soon after, the Chronicle moved to its present building at Mission and Fifth Streets in San Francisco. == Restoration == Until 2011, no known copy of the movie was known to exist. In that year, Bay Area film preservationist Rob Byrne discovered the last surviving copy, in the archives of the EYE Film Institute in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In collaboration with EYE and the San Francisco Silent Film Festival the highly flammable nitrate film was restored.〔(Rescuing The Last Edition: The quest to restore the “lost” 1925 drama. ), retrieved 2014-04-05〕 The restoration led to two new 35mm exhibition prints, one available at EYE, the other at the US Library of Congress. Research on the movie led to the discovery of the original trailer at the Library of Congress. This was restored in the process as well.〔(Restoring the Trailer ). Retrieved 2014-04-05〕 The copy in the collection of EYE was meant specifically for the Dutch market and therefore the intertitles were in Dutch. They were translated back into English by two volunteers.
